SciencePlus is a student-run volunteering scheme that works to improve interest and participation in the sciences among school students, and consequently improve the profile of science in society.
Our tutoring scheme is an activity much enjoyed by our volunteers. OU students team up with small groups of school students at Oxford Spires Academy, and assist with their science lessons, homework and past examination papers. The focus will be on inspired tutoring, to transmit enthusiasm to students for the sciences, and also to enhance their performance at school. Tutoring sessions are scheduled Monday and Wednesday(3:15 - 4:15 PM) at Oxford Spires Academy(OX4 2AU).
SciencePlus also hopes to prepare its volunteers to engage with the public about the sciences. Presentations of OU students' work and study to school pupils, and advice sessions for school pupils aspiring to get into university and Oxbridge, will be organized.
If you'd like to participate, or feel you can help with SciencePlus' goals, please drop us a line at scienceplus@oxfordhub.org . There are many ways you can help, and even small sporadic contributions of time and ideas are greatly appreciated.
